As an Esthetician it was easy for me to rationalize organic and natural skincare. Skincare products are the first thing on your face and first thing absorbed into your pores. My stance on skincare is keep it clean, but if necessary, go clinical. Don’t mess with the in-between. I’ve been using only natural products for over two years now.
I understand that many are on a budget when it comes to skincare, but if you are still worried about additives, the app’s EWG and Think Dirty have a rating scale to let you know where your favorite products land and why. You can also ask about ingredients.
When it came time to get rid of expired products in my kit and buy new things, I started thinking about fully switching my kit to clean makeup. Even though makeup isn’t the first layer on your skin, it still sits on your skin and the additives used are absorbed into your skin.
As a working Makeup Artist, it is hard for me to go 100% clean because there are many products still lacking in the clean beauty realm that I need for photoshoots and editorial looks. Bright colors are really hard to find in clean beauty, especially when we are talking about eyeshadows.
There are many main stream companies I love that do great eye products, but a lot of them aren’t cruelty free or vegan. That doesn’t make me feel good.
I’ve decided that going forward I will only purchase Cruelty free or Vegan products when clean choices aren’t available. I will continue to search for the cleanest alternatives and when I find them, I will replace the original product for the cleaner alternative.
I have a lot of products that have not expired that don’t fall under the cruelty free, vegan, or clean beauty categories. I will use up those products up, but I will not be repurchasing them.
I am excited to continue building my kit with new and exciting products I can share with all of you! If I talk about something that is only cruelty free or vegan, but doesn’t fall under the non-toxic or clean categories, I will let that be known.
